Privacy Policy for BrainJamz

Last updated: December 16, 2025

This Privacy Policy explains how Cognitive Jump ("Company", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the BrainJamz mobile application ("App"). It also describes your choices and rights regarding your information.

Who we are

Company: Cognitive Jump

Email: support@brainjamz.com

Website: brainjamz.com

Information we collect

Account and profile information

When you create an account or sign in (email, Apple, or Google), we collect and store:

  • Email address
  • Firebase user identifier (UID)
  • Display name and profile photo URL (if provided by your sign-in provider)
  • First name (if you provide it in the App)

User content and study data

BrainJamz is an audio flashcard app. We collect and store the content you create and the study data needed to provide core features, including cloud backup and account recovery. This may include:

  • Flashcard content (for example: questions, answers, translations, and notes)
  • Language settings (for example: known and target languages)
  • Study history and progress (for example: streaks and dates used)

Generated audio and backups

To support hands-free studying and restoration on a new device, we store audio files and backups in Firebase Storage and/or other Firebase services. If you restore from a backup and an audio file is missing from storage, the App (or our backend services) may send the associated flashcard text to Microsoft Azure Text to Speech to regenerate the audio. Microsoft states that it does not retain or store text provided to the real-time Text to Speech API.

Usage and diagnostics data

We may collect information about your device and how the App is used, including diagnostic data such as IP address, device identifiers, crash logs, and feature usage data. This information is typically collected through analytics and crash reporting services such as PostHog, Firebase Analytics, and Firebase Crashlytics (see "Service providers").

We do not collect precise location data.

BrainJamz may use the system keyboard's built-in dictation feature; we do not record or store dictation audio.

Purchases

If you purchase a subscription through Apple In-App Purchase or Google Play Billing, we receive purchase-related information (for example: subscription status or entitlement) from Apple/Google or from our subscription infrastructure. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain the App (including syncing, cloud backup, and account recovery)
  • Authenticate users and manage accounts
  • Generate flashcard content and audio when you use features that require it
  • Provide customer support and troubleshoot issues
  • Monitor performance, analyze usage, and improve the App
  • Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, or security issues
  • Comply with legal obligations

Communications and notifications

We may communicate with you via email, push notifications, or in-app messages for:

  • Service and account communications (for example: verification, security alerts, and subscription or trial notices such as reminding you that your trial is ending).
  • App experience reminders (for example: reminders about your daily goal, streaks, or study activity).
  • Customer support and feedback requests (for example: troubleshooting issues or requesting feedback). Feedback requests are optional.
  • Product updates (for example: emails about new features or important changes). You can opt out of product update emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in those emails or by contacting us.
  • Ratings and reviews prompts within the App (for example: prompting you in-app to leave an App Store or Google Play review). We do not offer incentives in exchange for reviews.

You can manage push notification permissions in your device settings and, where available, in the App's settings. Push notifications are not required for the App to function.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:

Service providers

We use third-party service providers to operate the App. Depending on how you use the App, this may include:

  • Google Firebase (Authentication, Analytics, Crashlytics, Storage, and related Firebase services) to sign in users, store backups and audio, analyze usage, and diagnose crashes.
  • PostHog to analyze how the App is used (usage analytics) and to help us improve features and performance.
  • OpenAI (ChatGPT API) to generate flashcard content when you use features that require generation.
  • Microsoft Azure Text to Speech to generate audio from text (including regenerating missing audio when restoring from backups).

These service providers process data on our behalf to provide the services we use. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies and applicable agreements. OpenAI's API documentation states that, by default, abuse monitoring logs may be retained for up to 30 days.

Legal and safety

We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or if we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect our rights, protect user safety, investigate fraud, or respond to government requests.

Business transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, consistent with applicable law.

Advertising and affiliate links

BrainJamz does not currently show third-party ad network advertisements. In the future, we may include promotional audio messages or links (including affiliate links) to products or services we recommend. We do not share your personal information with advertisers for these links. If you click a link, the third party website may collect information under its own policies.

Access by our support team

For customer support and troubleshooting, authorized Company personnel may access limited user information and user content stored in Firebase (such as your UID, email address, backups, and related records) when needed to respond to your support requests or investigate technical issues. We limit access to those who need it and use it only for support, security, and operations.

Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the App and the purposes described in this Policy. In general:

  • Account, backups, and audio files are retained while your account is active.
  • If you request deletion, we delete or de-identify your information unless we must keep certain data to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce agreements.
  • Usage and diagnostic data is typically retained for a shorter period, except where needed for security or debugging.

Your choices and rights

Access, correction, and deletion

You can request access to or correction of your personal information by contacting support@brainjamz.com. You can also request deletion of your account and associated data.

Deleting your account

If the App provides an in-app account deletion feature, you can initiate deletion in the App settings. If not, contact support@brainjamz.com and we will process your request. Deleting an account removes account data from our systems unless we are legally required to retain certain information.

Opting out of marketing

If we send you non-transactional emails, you can opt out using the unsubscribe link in those emails or by contacting us.

Security

We take reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

International data transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live. Data protection laws in those locations may differ. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to these locations.

Children's privacy

BrainJamz is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated Policy and revise the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after the change means you accept the updated Policy.
